WOODCHURCH LEAD PLANTER

This lead planter carries an interpretation of a Celtic interlaced pattern that features in The Book of Kells. This lavishly decorated series of gospel manuscripts were produced between the seventh and ninth centuries. It now resides in Trinity College, Dublin. The wooden patterns for this lead planter were hand-carved by Glyn Brawn. The panels were then cast in oiled sand, before being welded together and fettled. The actual size of the illumination in the original manuscript is 3/8th of an inch. This foundry-cast lead planter has been traditionally handmade in England by Heritage Lead Planters.
