SALTWOOD 3 PANEL ROUND LEAD PLANTER
This round lead planter has a wide double Celtic interlaced pattern flowing seamlessly around the outside. This type of decoration was practiced by the Pictish artist-craftsmen in the north of the British Isles. The Picts were the inhabitants of Scotland before the Scots, they ceased to be a separate tribe in about the tenth century. The wooden patterns for this lead planter were hand carved with a scalpel. The panels were then cast in oiled sand before being welded together and fettled. This foundry-cast lead planter has been traditionally handmade in England by Heritage Lead Planters.
